Description: I'm selling over 600 + kinds of seeds ( and also live plants during the warmer months ) so check my other auctions . You are bidding on 15 POND CYPRESS SEEDS - Taxodium distichum var. imbricarium . Synonyms: Taxodium ascendens , Taxodium distichum var. ascendens Also commonly called dwarf cypress or hat-rack cypress. Pond cypress is a deciduous conifer that is native to the coastal plain from Virginia to Florida to Louisiana. It is most often found on the peripheries of ponds and lakes, hence the common name. It is very similar in form and habit to the common bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) but smaller, has shorter needles, and is less cold-hardy than T. distichum. It is relatively slow growing with a conical form and will ultimately reach a height of approximately 30 feet . Branches of green foliage nod down at the tips (which is "Nutans" in Latin). The eye-catching feature is the bright green foliage that emerges in spring, growing vertically up from the branches and giving it a feathery appearance. In autumn it takes on the most glorious shades of orange and bronze. Zone: 5 to 9 Medicinal use : The resin in the cones is used as an analgesic for wounds. Other uses : The bark has been used to make cordage. Wood - light, soft, not strong, moderately hard, easily worked, straight grained, very durable in damp soil, takes a good polish. It weighs 28 lb per cubic foot. The wood is not given to excessive warping or shrinking, it is used for construction, water pipes, vats etc. See my store for 600+ seeds , live plants ( during the warmer months ) and over 300 books on plants and gardening ( when listed ).
