Swormstedt & A. Poe. There are multiple illustrations including a portrait of the author and engravings of the Ohio Penitentiary and Convicts at Dinner. From the author's preface, written in Eaton, OH: "The following work, kind reader, was not premeditated, when I accepted the appointment of chaplain to the penitentiary of Ohio; but i came into my mind, at first, as a mere suggestion, and grew up into its present form by the force of circumstances, rather than from calculation." The book is in fair-to-good condition. The cover shows significant wear and discoloration as shown. The front inner hinges is split and only partially intact. The rear inner hinge is intact. The binding is generally tight. The pages have foxing. There are no page tears or dog ears. There is no handwriting.
