Description: This stunning die cut advertising card or paper doll / toy, was issued by the Bradshaw Company in Canada to Advertise their of Pepsin Gum. I believe that Bradshaw’s is related to the Britten & Bradshaw Company of Toronto who started out making Pepsin Gum in the 1880’s. This piece was found in Ontario Canada so it would make sense, but is speculation on my part. What I do know is that this is a very rare piece. I have not been able to find these listed in any guide that I am aware of (American Card Catalogue ect.) so I have not been able to confirm an exact date of issue,. However based of the type of products advertising, and the graphic style used, an educated guess would be the 1890’s. The series features an embossed, die cut image of a beautiful woman holding a flag of the featured country while she stands upon a globe with an map image of the country showing on the globe. The advertising for Bradshaw’s Pepsin Gum is also on the globe. The backs were issued blank. I am unsure how many are in the series in total but I have personally come across only 2 different over the past 40 years. I am unsure who did the lithography, but they are beautifully done. Because it is a die cut card it is difficult to determine measurements, but this one measures 7 ¾ inches tall by 2 inches at its widest (approximately). This card features the country of FRANCE. The card does have glue and paper remnants adhered to the back. It was more than likely removed from a Victorian Scrap Album at some point in its past life. I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. Don’t miss out on this over 130 year old Lithographic Antique.
