Description: This listing is for an original 4x5" glass plate negative. This negative is part of a small collection of c. 1903 - 1908 glass negatives, primarily from various towns and cities in Michigan and Indiana. Be sure to check my other listings for more like this; as I will be listing many. Date: Aug 6, 1904 Subject: House at 3 Oaks Notes: It's unclear if this is in the village of Three Oaks, or a the address of 3 Oak, Tipton, Indiana - There are a few in this group that refer to it in different ways. Portion of original paper sleeve stuck to emulsion side of negative. ---- This listing is for the physical glass negative and its accompanying original sleeve. I photographed each negative plate, and then inverted the image in Photoshop so you can see what the positive image looks like. If you need clarification on what an original glass negative is, please don't hesitate to ask. Unfortunately, at some point the negatives were subjected to water damage; which has caused loss of a portion of the emulsion; to varying degrees; which distorts a portion of the image. This ranges from minor, to significant throughout the group. However, if the negative is listed, the primary object in the field of view is not heavily impacted; and therefore - digitally - it could be cropped/zoomed; saved, and preserved. Despite the damage, they are wonderful because - unlike so many early glass plates - the photographer took time to detail his photographers notes on the negative sleeves. Often times the date, description, and context; even time of day, is present on the original sleeve (which will accompany your glass negative). This is a real rarity. As you can see in the listing photos, the residual black powder on the original paper sleeves is emulsion dust from the damage. Is there a "White spot" on the listing photo? That's because a portion of the original sleeve is stuck to the physical glass on the emulsion side. I have not tried to remove this paper for fear of causing any further damage. If you need more clarification on this please don't hesitate to ask, I'd be more than happy to provide additional photos or information. And also; if the corners appear slightly off-center it's just due to the angle at which I took the photograph from my camera; each negative is nicely rectangular. "Watermarks" are a digital creation and not on the physical item. Any questions just ask. Will ship with extra care. Please note: A necessary amount of postage is in effect to safely ship this fragile, historical glass item; I'm more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases to help reduce the shipping cost for you. Located outside the U.S. and interested in this item? Let me know if ebays auto-generated shipping quote is too high and I'll try to find you a better quote. This is a wonderful, tangible link to a time long ago - and it's ready to be digitized and preserved! ----
