Description: 1942 Boston Post Johnny Sain Autograph. Authenticated By PSA/DNA. Very unique item as this is a Newspaper clipping from the Boston Post dated March 26th, 1942. Johnny Sain signed right in the middle of the piece. The title of the Cartoon/Sketch is Generally Speaking! Johnny was just coming into his own before the war derailed his early career. I find it interesting that the caption below his name in the sketch says "up from Nashville a hitter who can also pitch strikes". This was correct as Johnny hit .245 in 774 total at bats. Not bad for a pitcher and a 4 time 20 game winner. He was also on some of the early 50's Yankees teams. Bob Coyne was the resident Boston Sports Cartoon Artist. He drew over 15,000 sports cartoons for all of the Boston papers up until 1975. In 1942, he worked for the Boston Post and this cartoon was in the Boston Post on 3/26/42. This cartoon is signed by Johnny and then sealed in plastic and adhered to what appears to be a 3 hole punched piece of construction paper and probably displayed in a 3 ring binder. More then likely, the newspaper is somehow sealed to the 3 hole paper. Great item. Thanks for looking
