The Coin itself is 22k because its a coin. All circulated coins have more metal put in them to last. So that is why the coins are made heavier to makeup for the difference. This is a 1/4oz of gold which should be 7.08 grams but due to it having more metal it weighs 8.5 grams to make up and be 24k worth of 1/4oz gold.
