Description: Candy as a nourishing lunch? While that's not the current nutritional theory, back in 1912, this vintage collectible Goo Goo tin box recommended the Goo Goo cluster as a “Nourishing Lunch for a Nickel.” Manufactured by the Standard Candy Company of Nashville, TN, this awesome advertising tin depicts a lithograph collection of Goo Goo Cluster Treat ads through the years. The treat was the world’s first combination candy bar. A mound of caramel, marshmallow, and roasted peanuts, hand-dipped in milk chocolate, the Goo Goo Candy Cluster became the company’s star product. As the "nourishing lunch," this wildly popular treat became a staple at the Grand Ole Opry in the 1920's - 1930's. The Goo-Goo dance by Will Wood became a popular number at dance halls. Today, the company, Standard Functional Foods Group, is known for much more than its vanguard confectionery history. A new era of food innovation in the nutraceutical and healthy food category has led to their production of more nutritional and healthy snack bars. Currently, Goo Goo fans around the world can still order this chewy nougat treat online. This great canister, which measures 5.75" in diameter by 4.75" high, is in excellent vintage condition. With bold graphics, the exterior and interior are pristine. The container is food ready. This is a 1990s reproduction of the 1912 canister. This is a great collectible tin for the chocolate lover or Americana historian!
