Description: Offered at auction is a pair of late 19th to very early 20th century agate hardstone cameo cuff links, cuff buttons. The cufflinks are not hallmarked, as was common in the 19th century, and are made of solid18k ( carefully acid tested to determine karat standard) pink gold. The buttons on the back of these cuff links test 18k as well. The carnelian agate cameos set in these cufflinks probably depict the classical goddess Demeter/Ceres, she appears to have a wreath of "corn" in her hair. That said, these could also be a depictions of a Roman empress. The cameos set in these cufflinks are in excellent condition, with no damage to the image or background that I can see. Please see pictures to confirm this for your self. The approximate outside measurements frame of the front of the cufflinks is 21mm by 16.5mm. The approximate measurements of the rectangular cameos set in these cufflinks is 17mm by 12.5mm. The disk on the back of these cufflinks are 13mm in diameter. The pair of cufflinks, together, weigh approximately 14.39 grams. These cuff links are in excellent condition for their age and should be of interest to those who collect fine cameos, intaglios or wear this item of mens jewelry.
