In the center of the film are the fates of members of the working-class Zhurbin family, a family typical of Soviet society. Filming costed 3.419.000 rubles. The film is a laureate of the Cannes Film Festival for 1955 in the nomination "Best ensemble cast" ("For the best cast"; French "Prix d'interprétation collectif", English "Collective Acting Prize").  The poster has a few light creases and pinholes around the edges. It is otherwise in generally nice condition. The film tells about a large family of Zhurbins - hereditary shipbuilders. Three generations live together: grandfather Matvey, his son Ilya Matveyevich, four sons of Ilya Matveyevich (Viktor, Konstantin, Anton and Alexei) and the youngest daughter Antonina. The second son Anton comes from Leningrad to introduce a new method of assembling ships. The eldest son Victor, a craftsman for making models of future ships, is trying to design a universal machine for making models. The youngest son of Ilya Matveyevich, Alexei, is distinguished by the most complex character and through the most complex vicissitudes of the plot; he separated from the family, intending to marry, but his beloved girl Katya is carried away by the head of the club, who leaves her when he finds out that she is pregnant. Alexei finds the strength to forgive her and bring her back with a small child. Lida, Viktor's wife, leaves the Zhurbin family, feeling like a stranger in a family where everyone's whole life is primarily connected with the construction of ships. In connection with the reorganization of production, many family members have to change their profession. Ilya Zhurbin is trying to learn the basics of algebra in order to keep up with others, and quarrels with his old friend master Basmanov, who believes that their time has already passed. ☆Sergei Lukyanov ☆Boris Andreyev ☆Vera Kuznetsova ☆Aleksey Batalov ☆Sergei Kurilov ☆Vadim Medvedev ☆Boris Bityukov ☆Iya Arepina   www.imdb.com/title/tt0046797/ LEMESHENKO ALEXANDER MIKHAILOVICH (1918-1984) - Soviet poster artist.
