Description: This is a lovely and historically important Antique Old 19th c. Primitive African American Black Folk Art Painting, watercolor on paper, depicting four cute African American children. The figures are clothed in various colorful outfits, and the little girl on the right is wearing a bright red bonnet over her hair. In the lower right corner, a watermelon-fruit can be seen. This piece is unsigned, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? An old framer's label on the verso reads: "C.J. Wenroth Pictures...Picture Framing and Jewelry...WARREN PA." This piece likely dates to the 1880's Reconstruction Era. Approximately 7 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 7 x 11 3/4 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the antique frame. Acquired from an old estate in Los Angeles, California.
