CM Custom 1967 Telecaster Relic a la Nash Danocaster Nachocaster Fender Killer!

Description: CM Custom Historics is pleased to offer this one-off, scratch-built Telecaster in the vein of a "maple cap" era (1963-1968) "Smuggler's Rout" model under pickguard in faded Candy Apple Red. It’s finished in a 100% hand-mixed nitrocellulose lacquer and applied with a traditional spray-gun and a hand-rubbed finish that has been meticulously aged. Note: this is a true candy-coat (tinted red clear OVER Firemist Silver--just like Fender did it--and then naturally slightly faded to give it a distinctive almost 3D Candy Tangerine type finish). The color shifts depending on the light just like the original old Candy Apple Red examples from the early to mid 60’s (as seen in photos). This is NOT a monotone metallic rattle can job. This guitar is completely hand-built by myself from top to bottom using only minimalist powered old-school working tools (i.e. drill press, band saw, hand router, spindle sander, etc). No prefabricated CNC parts were sourced from a mass produced supplier—minus the hardware, of course—which is also aged to look the part. This is a labor of love for me and something I’ve been doing under the radar and in my spare time for the better part of 25 years. A lot of man hours have gone into this instrument to give it that true broken-in, genuine look of being sixty-plus years old. It’s being offered for you to immediately enjoy in a professional or casual setting whether on the stage, studio, sofa, or man/woman cave. We all know that “relics” are a very touchy subject in the current climate of the guitar world. However, this is merely my interpretation of a professionally playing recreation of an old, well-loved vintage guitar offered at what I consider to be a very fair and competitive price in todays flooded market of pre-fab, overhyped, mass-produced and exorbitantly priced (!) “cork sniffing” alleged “boutique” offerings. It’s a straightforward personal kinetic rendition of a classic—built by one person--and meant to be played and put through the paces. Specs are as follows: -Two-piece reclaimed torrified northern ash body: sourced, hand-cut, shaped and routed from an older piece of wood that was initially treated, prepped, and turned into blank by myself. -Hand-mixed/applied nitrocellulose base-coat and clear-coat over a thin vinyl sealer that has been aged throughout. -AAA flamed maple neck with quarter sawn hard rock maple; slab-board wood sourced from Bell Forest wood supply (not a curved veneer and adds stability and allow for being less temperamental) -VERY slight soft "V" to “C” hand taper with a 10” radius that's on the slimmer/faster side: Jescar medium vintage tall nickel silver frets (FW55095) that have been dressed down slightly to obviate that “speed bump” feel; 1.67” at nut; .081 at 1st fret, .093 at 12th; back and front of neck has been lightly French polished then lightly sealed with a thin coat of lacquer for a smooth, broken-in feel that will only get better with time and your hand oils and DNA; two-way Stew Mac "hot rod" adjustment at heel. -Hand-wound CM Custom lacquer-potted black bottom 60's Alnico V bridge (wound to a robust 8.2k) and wax potted Alnico V CM Custom “Tall T” in the neck wound to 7.4K for a nice balance with the bridge pickup and with a ballsy snap. -Traditional/standard Tele wiring with full size 250K pots, Gotoh 3-way switch blade and jack, NOS .033K Panasonic aluminum/oil tone cap, vintage cloth wire throughout. -Fully aged nickel hardware and plastic throughout (celluloid parchment 3 ply guard, knobs, bridge, tuners covers, etc.). -Compensated brass saddles on aged nickel bridge for that warm T-style tone (with the option to top load as well.) -Hand cut aged nut from raw-bone cut to the perfect depth for the lowest open-chording possible in the lower register. -Weighs in at a nice and reasonable 7.5 lbs and is ready to be gigged all night long. -Plays with great, true, low realistic action up and down the board for a guitar of its style (but keep in mind that’s NOT a Les Paul or an SG!) -Competitively priced for a one-man scratch built guitar that is less than the price of a new mass-produced Nash, almost half of a Danocaster, and nearly 1/4th the price of a Nachocaster and “Masterbuilt” Fender Custom Shop. -Realistic fingerboard and body wear emulating the look of a well-loved instrument that has been gigged heavily but not abused and does NOT look like its been dragged behind a truck or in a three-alarm fire. -Includes deluxe CM Custom padded gig bag. A Little About Me/”Who the F*ck is CM Custom?” What’s in a name? As I previously stated, I’ve been doing this under the radar in "small batch" format and by word of mouth for the better part of 25 years and have shipped hundreds of builds all over the world in that time—including to some very well-known guitarists. To look at more examples of my work and learn more, feel free to visit my “portfolio” on Instagram (CM_Custom_Historics). However, I have not been as active as much in recent months as I’ve been dealing with some personal issues for the past year and just coming back from a relatively long hiatus. For those of you who are familiar with my work, I regret to inform that will no longer be offering custom built commissioned orders in the immediate forseeable future due to a current backlog of previously placed orders. In the interim of catching up with some of my orders from my long-time, great supportive customers/friends as well as some new ones, I will slowly be listing some of the builds I started to whip up before my hiatus and offering them for sale at what I feel to be very fair prices: this guitar being one of them! Interested In This Guitar? -While you’re more than welcome to make an offer through the eBay platform, the price specified is a starting price for negotiation (within reason). However, I’m willing to get a little more aggressive in terms of discounting the price if purchased directly from me for a straight-up, “no B.S.” sale. Local pickup is not only welcome, its highly encouraged. Cash and most all other forms of payment are accepted. Feel free to contact me via t*xt or c*ll by looking at the information on each picture in this listing with offers or to come take a test drive (or, to send me troll-hate!) -NOTE: Free shipping in Continental U.S. ONLY - please inquire for international quotes! The Nitty Gritty/In Closing: -Guitars and their setups are a very personal and subjective thing. I completely get it. However, under no circumstances will I take a guitar back because you’re unhappy with the playability out of the box or the setup isn’t to your desired specs. Play it and make it yours! I merely provide a starting point on what’s typically a freshly built instrument that’s made of wood, metal and under hundreds of pounds of string tension that's often shipped in ever-so-changing weather climates and conditions. -As clearly described, this a scratch-built interpretation of an aged guitar. If you’re looking for a cream puff that’s flawless and mint then this obviously isn’t for you! My guitars are built one at a time, with my synergy, by hand, without a “press print” CNC machine. There’s definitely a human element involved and no two of my builds are alike. I don’t have a “team” of say 10 guys or gals helping me with my production and almost nothing is sent out or sourced from the outside besides the obvious (certain plastics, metals, pickup materials, wire, pots, etc). So please have realistic expectations. There are no “waiting lists” or “cork sniffing cult clubs.” What you see is what you get. You’re dealing directly with the builder and there’s no middle-men involved. I try to be as honest and upfront as possible considering this is my side gig and a labor of love. I’m not a big box store and I don't crank out 50 guitars a month like some of the other "boutique" builders who do this for a living and charge double (triple and quadruple) the price while laughing all the way to the bank! Buyers remorse stinks, I completely get it. But please try not to waste my time and I won’t waste yours. And please check with your wife or significant other before pulling the trigger (haha). Thank YOU for you time and consideration! Please check my other listings for MORE GUITARS!
