Description: The Helle Lappland knife is a classic utility knife such as those used by the indigenous, reindeer herding Sámi people in their daily life. It's a big knife with a fairly thin blade of non-laminated 12C27 stainless steel, very well crafted and balanced with a barrel shaped handle made of birch with brass fittings. The sharp 8.5" blade is engraved on one side: "Lapplandskniven, Helle, Rustfri, Norge" and on the other side: "Check Six, A O Division." This knife was acquired in an auction of the estate of a career military combat pilot, and the phrase “check six” refers to the need to visually identify an enemy pilot lining up behind the aircraft to bring it down. "AO" refers to Area of Operations. The knife sits deep in its traditional leather sheath, designed to tie onto a belt and optionally attach to the leg with another leather strap. SHEATH LENGTH: 14.5" TOTAL WEIGHT: 1 lb.
