Little Giant Eastern Arborvitae - Thuja Occidentalis 'Little Giant' - 1 Gallon

Description: Little Giant Eastern Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Little Giant') The Little Giant Eastern Arborvitae is a compact, evergreen shrub that offers year-round interest with its lush, dense foliage and rounded shape. This slow-growing variety of Eastern Arborvitae is perfect for smaller landscapes, providing structure and greenery without taking up too much space. Its rich green foliage stays vibrant throughout the seasons, and it maintains its neat, rounded form with minimal pruning. Little Giant Arborvitae is an excellent choice for privacy screens, foundation plantings, or as a low hedge in areas where you want a refined, tidy look. Key Features: Size: Typically grows 3-5 feet tall and wide, with a naturally rounded, compact shape.Foliage: Soft, rich green foliage that holds its color throughout the year, adding vibrant texture to the landscape.Growth Habit: Slow-growing, dense, and rounded form that doesn’t require much maintenance to maintain its shape.Hardiness: Cold-hardy in USDA zones 3-8, making it suitable for a variety of climates.Maintenance: Low-maintenance, requiring minimal pruning to keep its shape. Tolerant of many garden conditions and resistant to most pests and diseases. Planting Instructions: Sunlight: Little Giant Arborvitae does best in full sun to partial shade. For the most vibrant foliage and compact growth, plant it in a spot where it will receive at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight each day. It can tolerate some shade but may not grow as vigorously.Soil: Prefers well-drained, moist, slightly acidic soil. It is adaptable to different soil types, including clay, loam, or sandy soils, as long as they drain well. Avoid planting in areas where water tends to collect.Space: The compact size of this variety makes it a great choice for small gardens or areas with limited space. For hedges or borders, plant them about 2-3 feet apart to allow for their full, rounded growth. For specimen planting, space them about 3 feet apart for a neat, orderly look. Planting Steps: Dig the Hole: Dig a hole that’s about twice the size of the root ball. The hole should be deep enough so that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil surface. Planting too deep can suffocate the roots and reduce the plant's ability to grow properly.Prepare the Soil: If your soil is heavy or clay-based, mix in some organic matter like compost to improve drainage. Little Giant Arborvitae prefers slightly acidic soil but is adaptable to a range of pH levels.Place the Plant: Gently remove the plant from its container, being careful not to disturb the root ball too much. Place it in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is slightly above ground level.Backfill the Hole: Fill in around the root ball with the native soil, pressing gently to eliminate air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil. Care After Planting: Watering: Water the plant deeply after planting to ensure the soil is moist. Keep the soil consistently moist during the first growing season as the roots establish. Once established, Little Giant Arborvitae is somewhat drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during dry spells.Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Keep the mulch away from the trunk to prevent rot. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED.
