Description: This is for an original vintage illustration by the great Harry Schaare, signed lower right. Schaare was a prolific illustrator including many book and magazine covers of the era. This shows an airman who just spotted what looks like an ambush. Whatever it is it's not good. While Schaare flew for the Army in World War II an illustration of a pilot by him is a rare find. This is done on black paper using primarily charcoal and colored pencil. If you look closely on the back you can see the outline of the initial drawing. The mat appears original to the piece. A piece of the mat has separated at the side but it fits in place like a puzzle piece. This just needs a dedicated frame.
