House New York: The Macmillan Company 1934 First Edition Thus Signed inscription by Queen Mary of Teck (Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes; 26 May 1867 – 24 March 1953), the Queen of the United Kingdom. The inscription reads: "For Lord Wigram, from Mary R, Buckingham Palace, Christmas 1935." The signature and handwriting are consistent with other known examples. Quarto, 362 pages, publisher's original gilt lettered green cloth covered boards. Profusely illustrated throughout with color plates. Some minor rubbing and wear, else in very good + condition. About Lord Wigram: Clive Wigram, 1st Baron Wigram, known as Lord Wigram, was a British civil servant and courtier, renowned for his service to the British royal family during the early 20th century. Educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, Wigram began his career in the British Civil Service, eventually serving as Private Secretary to King George V from 1928 until the king's death in 1936. He held the same position briefly under King Edward VIII but resigned after Edward's abdication. Elevated to the peerage in 1930 as Baron Wigram, of Clewer in the County of Berkshire, Wigram remained active in public life following his retirement, contributing to various boards and committees. His legacy is marked by dedicated service during a period of significant historical change, and he passed away in 1960 at the age of 87.
