The film is based on the story of Torahiko Tamiya. Using the example of the life of one family for a quarter of a century (1921-1946: the end of the Meiji period and the first years of the Showa period), the filmmakers expose the feudal nature of the family structure in pre-war Japan. The film was awarded the Main Prize of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (1958). ☆The poster was released by SOVEXPORTFILM USSR - Soviet government agency created in 1945 that distributes Soviet films abroad.
