Vol 1 (4 ⅛’ x 6 ⅜”) pp, 525 (estimate). Tanned calf spine and paper boards. Complete list in order:LEE (Nathanael). The Rival Queens, or, the Death of Alexander the Great: Acted at the Theatre-Royal by Her Majesty’s Servants. London: W. Feales, 1734 (Possibly Taken from Vol. 2. of The Dramatick Works of Mr. Nathanael Lee). Pages 201-282, [2]. Illustrated Title Page. The title page has two names on the top. The illustration and title pages have some tiny rips. Page 213 has a small horizontal rip in the middle. Pages have foxing. English dramatist. Pages 21 and 93 have small rips, and about 15 pages throughout have small dog-ear bends in the corners. Pages have foxing. Behn was an early English female author who is quite prized for early feminist writings. She was credited by other female authors as being a vital predecessor. Title page has a small rip on the top right. Some of the pages have some advanced foxing. She was the second woman of the English stage, a contemporary of Behn, and is considered by some to be the most successful female playwright of the 18th century. Her plays were performed for 150 years after her death and were popular with audiences, less so with critics. This particular play was well received but had no lengthy stage life.KYD (Thomas). He is considered an important playwright in the 16th century, but little is known about him. Located in 7 institutions. The book itself is in good condition. There is an owner’s signature and a date in pen on the front cover, which has bled to the second page, and with a price in pencil on the top right. The edges have some wear and tear and bends into the pages. The leather on the spine is cracked, and the covers are weak.
