Vintage silk was expensive due to its source, it was made from purely natural materials. The reason it became more accessible in current days is because it can now be made from cheaper synthetic material. Since silk is a light-weight fabric which frays easily, bound or French seams should be used to stop the fabric from fraying. CHARMEUSE from the French word for female charmer, is a lightweight fabric woven with a satin weave. These float threads give the front of the fabric a smooth, shiny finish, whereas the back has a dull finish. Wikipedia Since vintage clothing is pre-worn and "used" keep in mind that they may have flaws and damages, that we may not have seen. When purchasing a used vintage apparel item it is normal to expect some natural wear of the item, due to the age of the garment and it is previous use. Things like pin sized holes, blemishes, standard signs of prior wear or age will not be noted in the product listing. Feel free to ask any questions. Check the pictures carefully and use the zoom feature. This slip was made by Regine Brenner NYC around late 1930-1940 for Gladys Glad, a Ziegfeld show girl. They don’t make slips better than Regine’ Brenner did. The skilled seamstress made remarkable slips. Mrs. Brenner's store in the 30's and 40's hand made underwear for wealthy people including Grace Kelly and various queens and princesses (literal and otherwise). The Fashion Guild had this to say: “Regina and Michael Brenner opened their lingerie shop at 50 W. 57th St., NYC, around 1936. They adapted Regina’s name to sound more French, reflecting the high-quality, hand-made garments they designed, created, and sold. Regina was already a skilled seamstress when she arrived in the US at age 16 and initally did most of the cutting, sewing and finishing herself though she eventually hired a staff of five or six seamstresses. The location had a large work room and a show room for buyers to view the latest lines.” VINTAGE CONDITION CHART Perfect: No visible signs of wear, no flaws, brand new look Nearly Perfect: Like new, no visible flaws Very good: Has been worn, minor flaws, possibly repaired Good: Some flaws, wearable and repairable Fair: Numerous flaws, needs a repair, wearable Poor: Damaged, possibly wearable, used for design or study Damage is considered something that requires repair, not something that will be remedied by washing, dry cleaning, or simple spot removal.
