Vintage ADOLFO for I.Magnin Hat Poofy Multi-Colored “Head Scarf” Raw Silk 60’s!

Description: This sensational vintage women’s hat from ADOLFO is almost too amazing for words. It is oh-so-cleverly, carefully and masterfully designed to look just like a scarf wrapped around the head and hair of a 1960’s beauty as if she were cleaning house or running to the market or maybe even trying to keep her rat-teased bouffant dry from a sudden deluge. But this is no strip of fabric, nor is it a costume piece, so eye-catching and poofey with that gorgeous rainbow raw silk fabric in bold pastels. Yes it’s a proper hat that commands attention and gasps of delight. Fashionable? “Yes ma’am” Campy ? “I’ll say” Joyful? “Praise Jesus, yes!” This head-wrap turned milliner’s masterpiece fires a caliber that would send Rhoda Morgenstern to the next galaxy! It’s the entirety of the1960’s flavor reduced into a singular head accessory; playful, colorful, irreverent, stylish, clever, political, empowering, creative and well…expensive! This was my grandmothers hat that my mother, then in her 20’s, would hijack to go and hang with her gal pals in Northbeach, San Francisco at the Hungry I and Bimbo’s**. If looking carefully you’ll see every crease is intentional, every fold well placed. A thin visor covered in the same silk pattern on the front gives it structure, shape and a sporty cap-like element. Like any head wrap, it ties into a loose knot in the back, which I think could be tightened or loosened providing a bit of wiggle room size wise. Also,the hat is lined with tan/flesh colored silk and has attached to the inside area above the forehead a large comb used to hold to affix the hat to your hair and scalp your scalp CONDITION is excellent with no holes, tears, stains, dust, flaws, damage or odors. (It was stored in a cool, dry storage area free from smoke, pests and pets). Also worth mentioning, the coloring of the silk is very well preserved with little to no fading and no sun or water damage. MEASUREMENTS & SIZE - (are approximate and were taken by hand with a soft tailor’s measuring tape.) Inner length - 21 in. Size - 6¾ (Small) with Aprox 1 in. to play with by adjusting the tie in the back. And… Like most vintage hats, this Adolfo when worn, will require a bit of personal adjusting, fluffing and filling to attain the hight and width suited best for your gorgeous face. And, of course, storing it in a box or hat box in a dry, dark place and keeping it filled and surrounded with acid free tissue paper is crucial. All of these things are what make having significant vintage hats a substantial, fun and rewarding undertaking! **Editors Side Note - Bimbos (mentioned above) was THE nightclub in San Francisco from the 30’s tru to the 1980’s and famous for, among other things, the bizarre protected hologram of a gorgeous topless mermaid floating seductively in a fish tank.
