Description: 🌼🌼 Cheever Meaders Primitive Brown Salt Glaze Stoneware PITCHER Early 1800s Jug Large Antique Heavy Cheever Meaders Museum Quality Slip Glaze POTTERY STORAGE JARJohn Milton founded Meaders Pottery in 1893 in Mossy Creek, Georgia using albany slip glaze. Pottery by Cheever Meaders is highly sought after collectors & museums they often created face JugsThis Albany Slip Glazed Pitcher is in Great condition with only one issue a hairline near the lip(see closeups). Pitcher is created by Cheever Meaders as it has an assymetrically applied handle. Shape & slip Glaze is how he created his Jugs. he created his work White county Georgia (1887-1967). This is a 4 gallon very heavy primitive storage crock or jar The pottery jug measures approximately 9.5" H x 6.5" Dia. at the center x 4.5-5" Dia. at the mouth. It has a nice formed handle & good slip glaze with deep brown colors. This jug could have been used for liquid as well as storing vegetables, meat, lard or anything. The Jug does have some glaze craqueler & glaze pops & pits consistent w age and manufacture. The jug does have imperfections around the bottom and top lower rim looks like from original creation. There are no cracks, problems or repairs except a hairline near the lip which I took closeup pictures of.. it is wonderful & very nice specimen for the age & a very old wonderful primitive stoneware piece.please view the photos & judge for yourself. It does have glaze noted on Early southern pottery especially that of NC, SC, TN, GA and AL These primitive salt glaze pots & jugs were not made as art or for aesthetic value. These primitive early pieces of pottery were made by local craftsmen for use & cross-uses such as a pitcher used also as storage. This era Glaze pottery pieces were not the commercially mass manufactured pieces. these pieces were turned by individuals who were often potting for extra money and wore many hats such as planting, carpentering, blacksmithing etcthis is very heavy weighted Pottery Jug. pictures below
